With a light covering of snow we have carried on as normal today. We are having a lovely day and excitement is running at fever pitch! I am writing though today to urge you to please take care on your journey to school tomorrow morning.
As things stand today, the weather forecasters are predicting freezing weather for the remainder of the week – this will make driving and walking to school extremely hazardous. The corner of Beridge Road and Butler Road is always extremely treacherous in snow and icy conditions, so please take care.
As I have always explained, we will make every effort to keep our school open. This morning I have cleared and gritted paths around the school with Phil Randall, our wonderful Site Manager, to try and keep the children, parents and little ones on their feet! The main problem for schools is staffing; if we cannot muster sufficient staff to keep the school functioning safely we cannot open and that is largely a transport issue. Weather such as this also puts a bigger strain on our facilities (heating, hot water etc.) and makes the general opening of the school more hazardous, so we have to ensure that we can guarantee adequate staffing levels to cope in an emergency (failed heating, burst water mains etc.).
Keep warm and keep safe!
