Summer Reading Challenge – Circus Stars

From Halstead Library:

Roll up, roll up the Circus Stars Summer Reading Challenge is coming to Halstead Library this summer from Wednesday 20 July to Saturday 3 September 2011.

Why not beat the queues and sign up before the official start date, at one of our special Early Joining events? See our Early Joining events.

Circus Stars is all about giving children a love of books and the opportunity to share some of the great titles in our libraries with parents and carers.

Circus Stars is open to children of all ages, even if children can’t yet read independently they can still join in. All children joining the challenge will receive a certificate.

When children join they will be given a 3D circus stage and as they read their books, they will receive stickers of characters to place on the stage. Scratch-and-sniff stickers will add to the circus atmosphere. Children who read six books will be awarded a Circus Stars medal.

Young people aged ten and over can join Show Time where they will use reading and research skills to judge 12 acts including street dancers, skateboarders and a performing dog and select a winner. The acts are described on six activity cards. There are rewards for completing the cards. Children who complete all six cards will receive a Show Time yo-yo.

All Summer Reading Challenge activities are free and children can join any time during the summer holidays.
