Y1/2 Visit To Colchester Zoo

This letter was originally sent out on 12th September and is posted here as a reminder of the visit details.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 1/2 visit to Colchester Zoo

This term Years 1 and 2 are learning about animals and plants in the environment.  We have arranged a visit to Colchester Zoo on Tuesday 27th September.  Whilst there we will be participating in activities such as an Animal Encounter, feeding the giraffes and learning from specialist staff in a talk about animals and their habitats.

The rest of our day will be spent exploring the zoo and seeing the range of different animals from around the world.

We will be leaving school after registration time (9.05) and returning at a later than usual time of 5.15pm, traffic permitting.  We have decided to lengthen the day to ensure the children enjoy a whole day at the zoo with time for the special events.

The cost of the trip is being subsidised substantially by the school to ensure costs to parents and carers are kept to a minimum.  The coach fare and zoo entry is £10.00.  If your child is a GOLD/PLATINUM CARD member at Colchester Zoo the cost is £5.00 and the card must be valid for the date and given to your child’s group leader.

The children will need a packed lunch in a carrier bag that can be discarded after they have finished their lunch.  No fizzy drinks, glass bottles or cans are permitted.  Children with a free school meal entitlement will be provided with a packed lunch unless you have told us otherwise.  The children should wear their usual school uniform and sensible outdoor footwear.  They must also have a coat or waterproof jacket.  A small rucksack is ideal for carrying their belongings as it leaves their hands free.  We would appreciate some adult helpers so please let your child’s class teacher know if you could offer some help.

We will be taking first aid kits but if your child requires medicine during the day of the visit please ensure we have the medicine, in the original packaging, clearly labelled with your child’s name, frequency and dosage.

Please complete and return your reply slip with the appropriate donation towards the cost of the trip as soon as you possibly can.  Do not hesitate to come and see me if you have any further questions. or to ask the school office for a new reply slip should yours have become lost.

Yours sincerely

Ms Alison Purkiss
