I am sure that you have noticed that our electronic gate entry system is up and running once again.
For those of you who do not know, the gates were damaged when a Braintree DC refuse lorry reversed into them in July 2011. Believe it or not this is the second time the gates have been ‘demolished’ by heavy good vehicles within the last 18 months – hopefully this set of gates will last a bit longer (fingers crossed!).
Following a long and extremely frustrating insurance dispute, which was finally settled in November, we were able to appoint contractors who have replaced the main gate and significantly upgraded our security system. The system now includes video communication cameras on the main and side gates and CCTV cameras which will monitor who comes in and out of our school 24 hours a day. I know to some that this may seem excessive, but unfortunately schools are not immune from crime. Having once worked in a school where an unauthorised intruder fatally injured a parent, I know the impact this can have on a community so we will do everything we can to keep you and your family safe.
The changes to procedures are as follows:
1. The side gate (near School Office) will be open from 8.10am to 9.00am and 3.00pm to 4.30pm. At all other times this gate will be locked and only accessible via the intercom.
2. The main gates (vehicle access) will be locked at all times and only accessible via the intercom or pin entry code (available to Staff and Car Park Permit holders only).
3. The Infant playground gate will be open, as normal, from 8.30am to 9.00am to alleviate the morning rush.
4. The pedestrian gate adjacent to the main gate (vehicle access) will remain closed at all times. We must try to keep the main drive clear of pedestrians to reduce the risk of accidents.
This is a new system for our school, so please bear with us as we may experience some ‘teething’ problems. We will try to answer all requests to enter the school as quickly as possible, but if we are slow to respond to the intercom, please be assured, it’s not due to ignorance!
Ultimately, this system has been upgraded in order to keep your children safe – pupil safety and effective child protection procedures are something that we take incredibly seriously and this development is the next step in making the Holy Trinity site as secure as possible.
