At Holy Trinity we have a generally relaxed approach to the food children can bring into school as part of their packed lunch, but we would urge you to give some consideration to those children (and staff) who have sensitive (and dangerous) nut allergies.
Nut allergies in children are often very aggressive and can cause acute medical complications. For this reason we ask parents to exercise a little thought and common sense when they make up their children’s packed lunch. Therefore, please do not send your children into school with nuts or nut based products, such as:
- Cereal bars containing nuts
- Chocolate spread sandwiches
- Peanut butter sandwiches
- Cookies/biscuits containing whole/crushed nuts
- Chocolate bars containing nuts e.g. Snickers
I realise it is very difficult to eradicate all nuts or have a completely nut free school, but I would ask everyone to be mindful that exposure to nuts would make a number of our children very, very ill. Please rest assured, this is not scare mongering, we have children who, if they come into contact with a single peanut, could suffer an anaphylactic seizure.
