Mr Smith will be on the school gate this morning, distributing an important letter regarding the sudden death of Mrs Sharon Weavers and outlining the way in which we will be manage children’s reactions to the news, and the wider impact of this very sad and unexpected turn of events. Here is the letter:
Dear Parents, Friends and Children
As I am sure some of you know, last week we received some devastating news. Sharon Weavers, one of our much loved, and longest serving members of staff, died suddenly after she was taken ill with a brain aneurysm.
Our love, thoughts and deepest condolences at this time are with Sharon’s husband Will and her daughters Hayley and Tiffany. Sharon was treasured by everyone at Holy Trinity and no words can adequately describe how much we will miss her, but now is the right time to celebrate Sharon, her life, and all that she gave to those who were privileged to work with her at Holy Trinity Primary School.
Literally hundreds of children in Halstead have passed through Mrs Weavers’ kind, caring hands during her twenty plus years at Holy Trinity, she had an uncanny knack of knowing how to comfort, cajole and inspire children in any situation. Mrs Weavers was a wonderful listener; children trusted her and they always knew that they could come to her with their worries and problems and that she would help them. We are all devastated by this loss and we can shed tears that she has gone, but we should also smile in the knowledge that she has lived and that we had the opportunity to share so much joy and happiness with her.
This morning at 9.00am I will be talking to our Key Stage Two children, to inform them of Mrs Weavers sudden passing and also to help them deal with their own feelings and responses to this news. Later in the morning I will talk to Year 1 and 2 children, many of them would have known Mrs Weavers through Breakfast Club and it is important that children are told appropriately about Mrs Weavers in a safe and sensitive manner. As always, we will do our best to ensure that this difficult news is communicated in a tactful and appropriate manner.
Mrs Weavers’ funeral service is being held on Wednesday 12th September. Naturally, all the staff at Holy Trinity would like the opportunity to pay their last respects to Mrs Weavers, so the school will be closing at 12.15pm on this day, as a mark of respect to Sharon and to allow our staff to attend the funeral. I apologise for the short notice of this closure, but it is impossible to plan for such circumstances in advance.
In line with the wishes of Mrs Weavers’ family, we have started a collection at school for the Romford Hospital Intensive Care Unit who provided such wonderful care for Sharon and her family at an incredibly difficult and sad time. If you would like to make a contribution please call in to the main school office.
I am sure that you will understand the feelings of our staff who would like the opportunity to bid farewell to a much-loved friend and colleague. I thank you in advance for your support at this difficult and emotional time.
