Your children in Key Stage One and Two have probably told you, but they have been listening to me read ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ by Roald Dahl over the last half term. They have really enjoyed listening and also discussing the issues and events that arise from this fantastic book.
Today many of the children were astounded to learn that in the ‘olden days’ children were punished in school with a swift swipe from the cane! We will finish ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ next week.
Although our children don’t know it yet, their (optional) task over Christmas will be to write a book review of ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ and then, in the new year I will share some of their work through the website.
Reading is one of our whole school priorities and with a busy curriculum it is easy to overlook the pleasure and enjoyment that can be gained from sharing a book. As we are coming towards the end of the book and I would like some suggestions for our next ‘big read’ – if you have any ideas please email me: firstname.lastname@example.org – the book needs to be suitable for children aged 5-11 and should deal with issues and events that we can also discuss.
