This week the children have been celebrating Chinese New Year in Hippo class. They have used the internet to learn interesting facts and watch some clips about the celebrations and the story behind them.
The children have enjoyed a wide range of creative activities this week, utilising lots of fine motor skills to help them in these tasks. They have been threading ribbon patterns, creating 3D dragons, drawing their own chinese symbols and creating and decorating Chinese lanterns, to name but a few!
We have also worked on the concept of subtraction, using the year of the monkey to help us!
A highlight was our Chinese feast, when all the Hippos tried prawn crackers, noodles, rice and spring rolls. There were lots of clean plates as the children shared their thoughts on the tastes and traditions they were experiencing.
