Following the Design and Technology theme across the whole school, Hippo class have had a very creative week. We used the Gingerbread Man as our focus text and the children have really enjoyed both learning the story and joining in with the linked activities.
They began the week designing, baking and icing their own Gingerbread Man, then moved on to designing a boat to save him from the sly fox. There were lots of ingenious ideas both from children and parents – thank you for all your support and a wonderful afternoon!
During the latter part of the week the children designed, made and played their own Gingerbread Man board game. They thought about how to make it look attractive but also make it functional and then tested each game with their friends before evaluating how successful it was.
Aside from our DT focus we had great fun flipping pancakes in races on Shrove Tuesday and on Wednesday the Hippos gave a superb performance! They have been learning and perfecting two songs which they sang to Miss Presland and a surprise guest (her fiance) to see them on their journey to married life. The children made buns and were fantastic at keeping all the party and activity plans a secret.
Well done Hippos – a great week and a wonderful half term!
