Holy Trinity To Observe A Minute’s Silence

Dear Parents, Friends, Children and Families

In line with the decision announced this evening by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, we will be observing a minute’s silence in school tomorrow at 11.00am.

I will conduct this short period of reflection in a sensitive and calm manner; it is an emotive subject but one that we cannot ignore. As I am sure you can appreciate, I have talked to our children about sensitive issues on many occasions and in my professional opinion we must support this National demonstration of respect.

I will focus my brief introduction on the importance of friendship, democracy, tolerance, respect and the rule of law – namely fundamental British Values and something that we hold dear to our hearts at Holy Trinity.

If you would like to talk to your children tomorrow morning about the Manchester terrorist attack in order to prepare them, I would recommend watching a BBC Newsround video (link provided below). It is appropriately presented and aimed specifically at primary school aged children.

This second BBC Newsround video deals more specifically with how children might feel on learning about events such as this.

With every good wish,

Jon Smith (Headteacher)
