Literacy Update- World Book Day, Reading Trail and School Library

Thank you to everyone who came and visited the Library after school last night, it will be open every Tuesday after school for children, and younger brothers and sisters, who would like to come and borrow a book.

Although World Book Day is on Thursday the 6th of March we will be celebrating it on Friday due to children being out at Forest School and cross-country. To celebrate World Book Day this year, each classroom is being made into a ‘book’. The children are busy creating displays and characters from their chosen book to transform their rooms, and they will get a chance on Friday to tour around the rooms and take part in activities related to the chosen books. Mr Smith is also busy preparing a World Book Day quiz which will be given out on Friday.

All of the children have now been given their reading trail booklets to complete linked to our whole school theme of ‘Our Stories’. There are lots of challenges in the reading trail, including a visit to the school and Halstead Town Libraries to take out a book. There is a small writing element to the reading trail booklets, however please do not worry too much about the writing part as the main emphasis should be put on the children reading a variety of texts. Although there is no set deadline for completion of this, it was designed to be completed within this term and children will be given a reward when they have completed it!

Also phonic boxes are still available at £5 each, please come and see me, or the school office for more details!

Thank you very much for all your continued support in Literacy,

Mrs Nethersole (Literacy Subject Leader)
