Food At Holy Trinity – An Update

The Future Of Breakfast Club

Parents and carers have often reported that a full-time Breakfast Club would be more beneficial, so from September 2014, depending upon demand, we are planning to open our Breakfast Club every school day.

We propose that the food preparation aspects of the Breakfast Club will be taken over by Mrs Crisp our Catering Manager, so as a result we are looking to widen our menu and re-launch our Breakfast Club.

In order to ensure that Breakfast Club is open everyday we will also need to invest in permanent staffing because for a prolonged period our current Breakfast Club was supervised by our staff on a voluntary basis. To open everyday we need a more sustainable plan and in order for it to work we will need to secure support from parents and carers.

To bring about permanent expansion there will be an increase in costs to parents and carers, but having looked at other Breakfast Club models we feel that our proposal will be very competitive, especially considering the cost of child care and child-minders.

We plan to open Breakfast Club everyday; we want to try and provide parents and carers with affordable and reliable ‘before school’ childcare.

The plan includes:
Opening at 7.30am [Monday to Friday] Breakfast will be served from 7.45am – 8.15am
Learning/Play activities will be available

We anticipate that the daily cost of Breakfast Club will be around £3.00 – £3.50 per day. In the near future we will be sending out a survey; please respond, we need to know that extending our provision is viable before we proceed.

Kitchen Extension

As many of you will know, from September, all children in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 will be entitled to a free school meal, this offer does not depend on your household income or whether you receive benefits.

At the moment we serve approximately 100 meals per day. In September we could be serving as many as 240 meals per day. In order to cope with the expected increase in demand, we will be extending and refurbishing the school kitchen over the Summer break.

The new kitchen will stretch over almost the entire width of the hall and will include new cooking facilities to cater for increased productivity.

We expect a substantial increase in the numbers of children eating school lunches. In order to help us prepare for this, we have sent a letter home [Foundation and Year 1 children only] asking whether you intend to take up the offer. It would be very helpful if you could respond so we can ensure that we are ready for September and can offer the best possible service.
