National Flu Vaccination

HealthI have been informed by the Department of Health and NHS Essex that all children of Primary School age will receive an influenza vaccination. I have also been informed that this will take place during the Autumn Term 2014.

The vaccine itself is called Fluenz Tetra and is an intranasal vaccine. The vaccine is squirted up the child’s nose through a syringe. The children will receive a single dose and, according to NHS research, is more effective in children than the traditional injectable flu vaccine. The Department of Health have said that not only will this vaccination provide direct protection from flu, it will also reduce the spread of flu to unvaccinated children and adults.

More information is available at:

We expect to receive a vaccination date from NHS Essex in the near future.
