Solar Schools – Tell Us What You Think!

We are currently a fair way down through the process of becoming a Solar School during 2015 and 2016. Theoretically it’s possible and all legal stakeholders are in support in principal, but there’s still some way to go.

If successful, this would see us install solar photovoltaic panels on the school hall roof allowing us to produce our own electricity AND receive payment for energy we have fed back into the system. Of Solar Schools’ two models, we would be going for Classic.

Why are we doing this? These are the obvious benefits:
  • HTPS Badge Final Trans6090kWh electricity generated a year. This will provide Holy Trinity with electricity during school hours (saving money on our energy bill) and, via a feed in tariff, earn the school approximately £700 a year for the next 35 years – that’s £24,500.
  • Greater awareness of renewable energy and environmental issues both due to having the the panels, and via curriculum activities.
  • Community involvement. We will have to raise the money for these panels but the idea is that this involves a wide range of stakeholders: pupils, staff, parents, governors, local businesses etc.
What do we have to do?
  • Raise £12000 during the 2015-2016 Academic Year
What help will we get? The Solar School Project, run by the charity 10:10 provides:
  • Our own page on the Solar Schools website. The webpage makes it easy for family, friends and businesses to donate in a simple and engaging way. Through the admin area, we can tell our story, communicate with past and future donors, and fundraise online like pros.
  • Banners, posters and stickers to help us spread the word locally.
  • Training at regional induction sessions.
  • Ongoing support from Solar Schools staff providing individual and group assistance through newsletters, webinars and email and telephone support.
  • PR support and the publicity benefits of taking part in an exciting national project.
  • Advice and inspiration from other Solar Schools – past and present.
This is an exciting opportunity for Holy Trinity to receive help and advice raising the money and installing Solar Panels. The potential benefits to the school in terms of finance, education, community involvement and the environment are great.

We can not, of course, do this without the support of everyone and so we need to know people’s views on the project before we commit to it. We would really appreciate you letting us know your thoughts on the project and, due to the constraints of time at the end of term, we’d like to know them quickly! Please…

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask. The process so far has been overseen by Mr. Handy.
