‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ has been Hippo Class’ focus text this week and the children have been busy undertaking lots of caterpillar and butterfly based tasks.
In Little Explorers we were hunting for caterpillars, butterflies or even their eggs. The children carefully looked under leaves and spotted lots of colourful butterflies lurking in the trees. We estimated how many there might be, then used our counting skills to check our ideas.
In the classroom we cocooned ourselves to understand what life may be like for a caterpillar. We also made a wonderful fruit salad for our snack, using our halving skills, and identified which healthy and unhealthy foods the Hungry Caterpillar had nibbled through in the book.
We also created some beautiful butterfly paintings, looking at symmetry – great shape and pattern knowledge Hippos!
