This week we were delighted to welcome poet Matt Abbott to school to write poetry with children across the school. On Wednesday he worked with Year 6 and they have written a collaborative poem which will soon be shared in video form and be put on display in the school. It is a collection of Year 6’s memories of Holy Trinity as they move on to ‘big school’ later this year. Thursday saw Matt in Years 1-5, enthusing the children to write individual poems which we will also share in due course. It was an exciting two days where the children were encouraged to let loose their inner poets. Thank you to Matt for sharing his poetry skills and enthusiasm with us.
Matt Abbott is a professional poet, educator and activist. He’s also got a record out. In July his first collection of poems for children, A Hurricane In My Head, is published.
