As part of STEM Week Gecko Class studied birds’ nests. After looking at some pictures of real nests, they trawled the school grounds for sticks, twigs, moss, feathers, and other suitable material to use to make their own nests. Using only the collected materials they had to work together to make a nest that would support an egg (or, in some cases, a piece of play fruit!) keeping it safe and warm – the two main criteria the children decided were important. They did a great job of their nests, and found out how amazing birds are at making incredibly complex structures with just their beaks!
