During our ‘Create’ term Year 5 studied sculpture. Their sculptures were all inspired by Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) and throughout the creative process her works of art were on display in the classroom. Each piece was considered with her techniques, and use of form and colour, in mind.
Each Y5 pupil created four pieces during the term:
1. Painting existing papier-mâché figures.
2. Extending plastic bowls with papier-mâché and decorating them with mosaic.
3. Painted balloon-formed Plaster of Paris abstracts.
4. Plasticine formed abstract animal sculptures, covered with papier-mâché & painted. (Sculptures split and plasticine removed before re-layering and decoration.)
